Here you will find practical advice from a family historian who is also a librarian and archivist. Pay particular attention to posts with 'Wisdom Wednesday' in the title. Items that I liked include:
- Step Away From the Laminator!
- Five Simple Things You Can Do Today to Preserve Your Family Papers
- Planning a Genealogical Research Trip. Note, too, the comment about attaching car keys to clothes when exploring cemeteries!
Thanks for this suggestion, Judy. As a result of your post I am now following "Sassy Jane" in my RSS feeds.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a helpful blog. And this makes a change from *me* learning things from *you*. (grin)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the referral, Judy. I have a great uncle who emigrated from Scotland to South Africa to Australia to New Zealand, so I may need some Aussie genealogy advice someday soon.
ReplyDeleteWas he by any chance a miner?
ReplyDeleteI don't know very much. He worked at a paper mill in Scotland (that's still there!) and then I think the intent was to mine in the Transvaal. That must not have worked because he ends up in New Zealand.
ReplyDeleteI would not be surprised if you find that he was moving from country to country in order to be at the site of the latest mining boom. Many people listed in North Queensland hospital records were previously or subsequently in mining areas in New Zealand, New Guinea, Victoria, Western Australia, etc.
