You are correct that no one should apologize for marketing or making money, however it is often hard for us as genealogists to remember that. Hopefully we will continue this discussion and help each other with the business aspects of family history.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11985092052362235580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4019443366936461483.post-91353411937228126262011-04-23T23:02:32.519+10:002011-04-23T23:02:32.519+10:00Very interesting post. I definitely look forward to hearing more about your journey.

What I meant by that remark you mention was this: I hear quite a few traditional, long-time genealogists say things like, "You can't make money blogging," or "Social media won't make you any money." I know from my own experience and that of others that these things are absolutely not true...but someone without that experience might read those remarks and take it to heart.Kerry Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17590443839479686201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4019443366936461483.post-74857913083458426462011-04-23T22:47:28.040+10:002011-04-23T22:47:28.040+10:00Thanks for your comment on Genealogy Frame Of Mind...Thanks for your comment on Genealogy Frame Of Mind. Its a job I love doing, although I often wish I could spend longer doing the research part of the job. It is a stable regular income (although not particularly well paid).

Genealogy/family history research has no professional status as such in New Zealand, and has no courses or qualifications.

I note your comment about Council libraries paying speakers? In NZ at our council, we're not permitted to pay our speakers.

We're very fortunate that we have a good community of researchers we can ask to speak; along with professionals from local organisations.

We are hugely grateful that our wonderful friend Jan Gow for helping us get international speakers of a high calibre from time to time.genebrarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15268359924733017009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4019443366936461483.post-39559179066386140602011-04-23T17:17:42.460+10:002011-04-23T17:17:42.460+10:00Thanks for the positive feedback.
